Health Insurance Issues?
I am a 23 year-old graduate student. Currently, I am under my mother’s health insurance plan. I can only be on it for as long as I am a full time student or until I turn 25. Unfortunately, I need to take a medical leave of absence from school in order to get treatment for an eating disorder but by leaving school I will therefore lose my health insurance and would not be able to get treatment. I have not been able to find a solution to this problem in spite of the numerous people I have talked to. If I were healthy enough to get a full time job that offers health insurance then I wouldn’t need to leave school in the first place. Medicaid is not an option and neither is Cobra. Aren’t there any options out there to help me?

No you won’t be dropped. I forgot the laws name but there was just a law passed saying the health insurance cannot drop you for a medical leave of absence from school. They passed it like a month or two ago.

I tend to think that as long as you are a registered student while on approved medical leave, your mother’s health insurance plan should still honor your student status during the leave period. I suggest that you check it out infomally with people at school and the insurance office as a third person before you push your panic button.
